PSA Heidi Pitts Takes 1st Place in Female Civilian Division at Canine Biathlon

On Saturday, May 19th, 2018, PSA Heidi Pitts competed in the 2018 U.S. Canine Biathlon in Anniston, Alabama. The U.S. Canine Biathlon is a 4.1 mile obstacle course in which human and canine, connected by leash, compete together in the hills of Alabama at Vapor Wake K9. Vapor Wake K9 is one of the largest and best K9 training facilities in the country. This facility trains dogs for the military, police, and government and encompasses over 325 acres. This was the Biathlon's fifth year and only the second year the race was open to civilian participants. PSA Pitts competed with her 5 ½-year-old female Australian Shepherd “Latt” and took 1st in the Female Civilian Division finishing in a time of 39:44, and finished 5th overall, out of 798 competitors, and was the highest finishing female competitor. The course involved thirty-eight (38) obstacles, which are used to train the K9s at the facility. These obstacles included 8’ A-frames, 5’ A-frames, numerous culverts, streams, rocks, climbing over vehicles, crawling under a 1 ½’ area covered by chain link in mud/muck/water, climbing mountain terrain, several water pits, dog carry across a telephone pole with water pit below, trail running with logs, concrete barriers, and tire climbs. PSA Pitts and “Latt” is to be commended for her accomplishment!

Way to go Heidi!
