City Commission Meeting

The City Commission met on Monday, November 5th. City Commission meetings take place at 3 PM on the first and third Mondays of each month at City Hall (3rd Floor). Join us at the next one in person or watch live online or on Spectrum channel 643 / FiOS channel 43.

Se7en Wetlands & Environmental Excellence

Congratulations to our Se7en Wetlands team on receiving the Environmental Excellence Award for Se7en Wetlands! The award was presented by the Tampa Bay Association of Environmental Professionals earlier this month.


Healthy Community Champions 

Congratulations to the City of Lakeland's Community and Economic Development team on receiving the 2018 Healthy Weight Community Champion Award AND for becoming a Walk 21 partner in the International Charter for Walking!


City Commission Proclamations

Each month, Mayor Bill Mutz and the Lakeland City Commission present a variety of proclamations. These proclamations are a great way to help spread awareness for specific local, state and and national causes. Here are this month's!

Geographic Information Systems Day
November 14, 2018

Here to receive the proclamation are Naomi Tillett, Engineer for the City of Lakeland's Public Works Department, GIS team members and students from Resurrection Catholic School.

Geography Awareness Week
November 11-17, 2018

This week promotes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Geographic Literacy in schools and among the general public. National GIS Day is November 14, 2018, and provides a forum for users of GIS technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society. The City of Lakeland is committed to utilizing GIS to better serve its residents and customers and make Geographic Information easily available to the Public.

On November 13-16, 2018, the City of Lakeland will hold a week-long GIS event open to the public in the lobby of City Hall daily from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, displaying GIS technology, educational videos, and a map gallery.

Salvation Army Red Kettle Kick Off Day
November 16, 2018

Here to receive the proclamation was Major Barry Corbitt, Tim Rice, Dennis Harrison and Myrna Whortin with The Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign provides funds for many local needs, and Christmas bells will be ringing again throughout western Polk County as media groups and community leaders help the Lakeland Salvation Army Advisory Board kick-off the annual Red Kettle Campaign on Friday, November 16, 2018, with a goal to raise $225,000.

President Angela Garcia Falconetti Inauguration Day
November 15, 2018

Here to receive the proclamation was President Angela Garcia Falconetti, Dan Dorrell, Teresa Martinez and Cindy Hartley Ross of the Polk State College. 

Dr. Angela Garcia Falconetti will be officially inaugurated on Thursday, November 15, 2018, as the fifth president of Polk State College. President Falconetti is a powerful advocate for the College’s mission to transform students’ lives through the power of education by providing access to high-quality, affordable associate and baccalaureate degree programs and workforce certificates. President Falconetti truly believes that when students succeed, the community succeeds, and will work tirelessly to ensure that Polk State College graduates soar.

Congratulations to George Calhoun of 1122 Hallamwood Court on being named the City of Lakeland's Residential Beautification Award winner for November 2018! 


November Employee Spotlight: Nicole Travis

Nicole Travis, Director of Community & Economic Development, was born and raised in the US Virgin Islands. After graduating from high school, she moved to Virginia to attend Hampton University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture. She went on to earn her Masters of Business Administration after relocating to Central Florida.

"New To" Supervision Participants

We are proud to introduce our most recent “New To” Supervision Leadership Series Participants. “New To” Supervision is a leadership workshop series, consisting of six modules focused on “must have” practical and tactical skills, tool kits and information. Throughout the program participants practice using a variety of approaches to help them successfully prepare for the challenges and demands of their new supervisory role.

Did you know...it takes more than a month for our hardworking Parks crew to make it around the City and install Holiday Decorations? That means some parts of our beautiful City have to get in the spirit a little early. Decorations started going up this week!
