Two Killed in Sunday Evening Crash
LAKELAND, FL (November 5, 2019) - On Sunday, November 3, 2019, at approximately 7:38 p.m., Lakeland Police officers responded to a serious traffic crash at the intersection of East Gary Road and Interlachen Parkway. Prior to the crash, a Suzuki motorcycle was traveling westbound on East Gary Road, and a Dodge Caliber was traveling southbound on Interlachen Parkway. The Dodge came to a stop at the intersection. Based on witness accounts of the event, as the Suzuki approached the intersection, the Dodge turned left into the path of the motorcycle. The operator of the Suzuki was unable to avoid contact and struck the front left driver side of the Dodge. As a result, the operator and passenger of the Suzuki were thrown from the motorcycle.
The Lakeland Police Department Patrol Unit, Polk County Fire Rescue, and the Lakeland Fire Department all arrived on scene and began to provide life-saving measures. The operator and passenger of the Suzuki were pronounced deceased on scene by Polk County EMS at approximately 7:44 p.m.
Members of the Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. The roadway was shut down for approximately 4 1/2 hours while the scene was processed for any follow-up investigation. At this time, the investigation is active and ongoing.
