Heritage Parking Garage Update

Heritage Plaza Update Photo - garage/construction

Eastbound Orange Street & Southbound Tennessee Avenue Open

LAKELAND, FL (January 17, 2020) | The Heritage Parking Garage is now planning to be open in the first week of February. The garage located at 227 South Kentucky Avenue was originally slated to open the third week of January but the project has experienced typical construction delays that impacted the opening date. The contractor now estimates the garage will open during the first week of February as workers complete the final interior finishes of the project. Once completed, there will be 49 regular spaces and 10 ADA accessible spaces on the first floor of the garage available to the general public during normal business hours as pay to park spaces. These spaces are free after business hours and on weekends.

As the construction for the garage enters into the final stages and nears completion, the streets that are closed will begin opening next week.  Eastbound Orange Street is now open along with the southbound lane of Tennessee Avenue.  The garage pay stations are scheduled to be installed today, January 17th.

“This parking garage will support one existing and one new office building and will benefit downtown businesses, shoppers, diners and visitors. The dedicated public spaces will be available at an hourly rate of $1 per hour and there will be two Pay Stations on the ground level of the new parking garage. The Pay Stations (Pay-By-Plate) collect coins, dollars and credit cards or visitors can use the convenient ParkMobile app,” said City Manager Tony Delgado. “The public will also have access to free parking spaces on the first and second floor of the garage after business hours and all day on weekends.”

With the completion of the Heritage Parking Garage, an additional 33-parallel parking spaces will be available (re-instated) along the perimeter of the garage on Orange Street, Kentucky Avenue and Tennessee Avenue. This street parking is free to the public for two-hours per day and visitors can extend their stay using the ParkMobile app

The Heritage Parking Garage is a unique project that has four entities paying for the garage. Each entity will retain ownership of the parking spaces, paying a pro-rated share of the construction and development costs. The City of Lakeland purchased 411 spaces, Lakeland Regional Health Systems purchased 125 spaces, MidFlorida Credit Union purchased 175 spaces and Heritage Plaza owner BKP Five LLC will have 125 spaces. The cost for the garage is approximately $11 million.
