Coronavirus/COVID-19 - Parks & Recreation Cancellations & Closures

This news item will be updated with information on Parks & Recreation Department facilities and green spaces. 

Per City of Lakeland Emergency Order No. 2020-01, all Parks are closed effective Friday, April 3rd to help curb the spread of the coronavirus. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact our team via email at LakelandParkRec@Lakelandgov.net

The Parks & Recreation Department closed Libraries and Recreation Facilities end of the day Tuesday, March 17 until further notice. 

 

While our facilities and offices are closed to the public our team is eager and available to answer questions. The following is the best contact information for each of our areas:

RUMOR CONTROL: City of Lakeland Parks & Recreation facilities are NOT open for public daycare/camp while Polk County Public Schools are closed for COVID-19 and Spring Break. 

The City of Lakeland is NOT prepared to deal with an influx of unsupervised children to our facilities.

The following City-sponsored programs and events are either canceled or postponed as noted: 

Camp Blast (Elementary school-aged summer enrichment program), T.A.S.C. (Teen Adventure Service Camp), Summer Swim Lesson Registration

Camp Blast, T.A.S.C., and Summer Swim Lesson registration is postponed at this time. Staff is working diligently as the situation unfolds regarding facilities and regulations due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. We will be updating this section of our website with information as soon as we receive it.  Check back often!

Parks Division - all Parks closed effective Friday, April 3

Many parks have already been closed with signage due to previous direction; however, there are many spaces that may take additional time to install barriers and place signs. We appreciate the public's patience as we move forward.

Tennis - all courts closed effective dusk 3/23 until further notice

  • Bayre Lay Jr. Invitational Tennis Tournament - canceled, March 21
  • City-sponsored tennis classes - canceled through April 30 or until further notice

Adult Athletics Leagues 

  • Spring Softball - suspended through April 30 or until further notice, the status will be evaluated and managers will be contacted at that time. 
  • Spring Kickball - suspended through April 30 or until further notice, the status will be evaluated and managers will be contacted at that time. 
  • Men's Adult Basketball - suspended through April 30 or until further notice, the status will be evaluated and managers will be contacted at that time. 

Kelly Recreation Complex - Facility closed until further notice

  • Great Escapes Spring Break Camp - canceled
  • Easter Bunny Brunch – canceled, April 10

Gandy Pool - Facility closed until further notice

  • Spring Swim Lessons - canceled through April 30 or until further notice
  • Adult Swim Lessons - scheduling on hold until further notice.

Simpson Park Community Center - Facility closed until further notice

  • S.D. McArthur After School Program - suspended through April 30 or until further notice
  • Jellybean Jubilee – canceled, April 9

Coleman-Bush Building -  Facility closed until further notice

Lake Mirror Complex (Magnolia Building, Peggy Brown Building, Lake Mirror Auditorium)

Library Division - All Libraries closed through April 30 or until further notice

 Cemeteries Division

 Cleveland Heights Golf Course -  closed effective dusk 3/23 until further notice
