NW corner of E. Orange St. and S. Kentucky Ave.
This is the city’s smallest park! The park is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks on the world trade center. 2010 was the deadliest year of fighting for US Soldiers in Afghanistan thus far and to do our part on the home front, we transformed a weedy patch of grass into a ‘Victory Garden’. Victory Gardens were started in World War 1 to reduce the strain on food supplies. Agricultural labor had been recruited by the military and Victory gardens used public spaces and private yards that were already being maintained to grow food. These gardens were also called a civil morale booster as gardeners could feel empowered by their contribution to the war effort! President Woodrow Wilson said that “food will win the war”.
