Edgewood Drive Extension Project
On January 20, 2004, the Citys consultant, TBE Group, Inc. (Clearwater, FL), presented the recommended alignment for this new connector road to the City Commission. The recommended alignment was the San Gully Road/Edgewood Alley alternative. The alignment was unanimously approved by the Commission.
The Edgewood Drive Extension project will extend Edgewood Drive from S. Florida Avenue to Harden Boulevard. Traffic signals are proposed at S. Lincoln Avenue and Harden Boulevard. The traffic signal at Harden Boulevard has been installed and is operational.
The road construction plans are 90% complete. The City Commission awarded American Acquisition Group, LLC (Tampa, FL) an acquisition contract on September 4, 2007. American Acquisition is negotiating on behalf of the City to acquire the necessary right of way for this project. Right of way acquisition is 70% complete.
The construction of the new Edgewood Drive from S. Florida Avenue to Harden Boulevard is targeted for early calendar year 2010. This project is being funded through Gas Tax and Impact Fees. Polk County is also contributing $4 million to this project.
