Public Works Department

The City of Lakeland's Public Works Department consists of seven divisions and 267 full-time employees. These seven divisions include Engineering, Construction & Maintenance, Traffic Operations & Parking Services, Lakes & Stormwater, Facilities Maintenance, Fleet Management and Solid Waste. The fiscal year 2012 budget for the Public Works Department is just under $53 million. This Department also oversees a capital improvement plan budget of almost $16 million.

SR 33 Roadwatch May 20, 2012

SR 33:    From Jenkins Nissan Car Dealership to north of Deeson Point Blvd./Combee Road Intersection Construction project--- The improvements to be made as part of this project consist of road widening to provide additional travel lanes. The scope of work includes asphalt milling and resurfacing, drainage improvements, utility relocations, sidewalk, lighting, signalization, and signing and pavement markings. Utilities relocations are in progress.  The contractor is planning to install temporary asphalt and concrete barriers on Sunday May 20, through Thursday May 24, 2012. Intermittent night time lane closures between 9 pm and 6 am are expected during this work period.  There will be a traffic pattern change on Monday May 21, 2012. The contractor will continue with the construction of the roadway subgrade. This project is anticipated for completion in spring 2013.  The contractor is Cone & Graham, Inc.

Closing of Prado Place

Effective Wednesday, May 2, 2012, access to Prado Place will be permanently closed.  This will be the permanent configuration for the Edgewood Drive Extension road project.  Area residents will need to utilize either Windsor Street or Palencia Place to access their residences or area businesses.  Appropriate signage will be posted.  The road construction is on schedule and the anticipated completion date is November 2012.  At that time, both east and west travel lanes will be open from South Florida Avenue to Harden Boulevard.

SOUTHWEST MIDDLE SCHOOL
Effective Tuesday, January 3, 2012, the existing Edgewood Alley will be closed to pedestrian traffic due to road construction of the Edgewood Drive Extension (from South Florida Avenue to Eden Parkway).  All students should use Windsor Street, in lieu of Edgewood Alley, through the completion of the project (Dec. 2012). read more ...
