Beacon Road/Lincoln Avenue Intersection Improvements

This project was substantially completed on February 26, 2008. The project included the construction of a new traffic signal, left-turn lanes, drainage improvements, and resurfacing of the roadway from Lincoln Avenue to Shawnee Trail. Chastain-Skillman, Inc. (Lakeland, FL) was the engineering design firm, the right of way acquisition firm was Gulf Coast Property Acquisition, Inc. (Lakeland, FL), and Kamminga & Roodvoets, Inc. (Tampa, FL) constructed the improvements.

The City Commission awarded Kamminga & Roodvoets, Inc. a $1.3 million construction contract on June 4, 2007 and construction began on July 9, 2007. Substantial completion was scheduled for May 21, 2008. The contractor beat that schedule by 85 days.

This project was the third and final improvement to Beacon Road. The first improvement occurred in 2002 when the City improved the intersection of Harden Boulevard. That improvement included the addition of a second southbound left-turn lane on Harden Boulevard and a second eastbound lane on Beacon Road. The cost of those improvements was $178,000.

The S. Florida Avenue intersection was the second improvement project and it was completed in 2003. An eastbound right-turn lane was constructed at a cost of $124,000.

These projects were funded through Gas Tax revenues and Impact Fees.
