Rain Barrel Paint2 Rain Barrels
Pure rain water from rooftops is better for outdoor activities - lawns, shrubs, gardens, potted plants, and freshly replantings. Its free for anyone’s use. By reusing rain water, specially treated (free of micro-organisms) potable drinking water is not being overused or wasted.

The reuse of rain water means less stormwater run-off from a property to impervious surfaces (driveways, streets…). Rain water falls onto roofs, lawns, and streets in which fertilizers, pesticides, and motor oil then attach to the stormwater molecules. The polluted stormwater then drains into our ditches and stormdrains – flowing eventually to our lakes and waterways.

Collecting water from your roof will reduce your property’s stormwater runoff!

Rain Barrel 3 Rain barrels are 50 to 55-gallon drums used for hand watering – and typically are full after a 1” rainfall.

A rain barrel is connect to your roof gutter’s downspout by cutting a hole on top of the barrel and then adding an extension to the downspout to direct the water flow into the rain barrel. If more water is needed – rain barrels can be interconnected with each other or attach a overflow pipe to the barrel for excess water to flow into your yard or garden.

A hose can be attached to a rain barrel’s spigot for watering lawns, plants, flowers, and garden ponds.

To abide by homeowner association regulations and by-laws, paint your rain barrels to match your house and use shrubs to help blend and hide your rain barrels.
