Class Lakes Fall 2003 Living at the Lake
Workshop Overview
The 'Living at the Lake' Workshop is presented by Mr. John Brenneman, Natural Resources Extension Agent, from the University of Florida - Institute of Food and Agriculture Sciences (UF-IFAS)Cooperative Extension Service of Polk County. This nine (9) hour workshop session provides an overview of Florida lakes and provides a healthy surrounding environment for our lakes. Sessions are arranged during several weekdays or two weekends throughout the year. Contact Cindy Hill for registering or scheduling a class for your group.

Girl Scout Badge Program
We assist with providing the resources and technical knowledge for Girl Scout troops to learn about lakes, stormwater, and natural resources within Lakeland and Florida while earning scout badges and learning to live the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Badge Projects for Juniors (Grades 4-6 or 9, 10, and 11 years old) include the following:

Water is critical in many of our areas. The use of a rain barrel has the benefit of using rain water. Rain water contains the needed minerals our lawns and plants need. Learn the importance of rain barrels, how to design connections in a yard for effective function of your rain barrel, and take home your own rain barrel.

Composting and YOU - Take home your own Composter
A great way to improve soil for plant growth is by adding compost (made from partially decomposed yard or food waste). Learn everthing you need to know on how to compost with the use of an Earth Machine Composter. Class is FREE and the composter can be purchased when you register for the class or at anytime. Sediment From Construction Site NPDES and City LDR Compliance
This FREE class is for anyone in the building or construction industry and is recommended to become familiar with the rules and regulations for controlling erosion and sediment of a contruction project site. NPDES permit updates, forms and permits required, daily site records, and information on controlling erosion are presented.

Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance Certification
This program is for anyone in the commercial landscape and maintenance field. The class meets the 8 hour training requirement for certification with an opportunity to take the examination at the end of the course. Current certified participates may receive 4 hours of continuing education units necessary for license renewal. Class fee is $40.00 for each participant. Test fee is $150.00 for each participant.
