Lakeland Regional Advanced Transportation Management System (LRATMS) The Florida Department of Transportation along with City of Lakeland and Polk County are beginning the construction phase of a design/build project to upgrade the Citys control and monitoring of its network of traffic signals. Among the major features of the system are:
Replace the 14 year old system, controlling approximately 160 signalized intersections (system had ability to control 250 intersections) Upgrade field communications system from copper wire to city-wide fiber optic cable Replace 176 traffic signal controllers and cabinets at 178 intersections Control and monitor 176 signalized intersections in Lakeland/Polk County on a second by second basis Renovate the Transportation Management Center (TMC), including: Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Replace old DEC 3000 central computer with microcomputer-based system with built in redundancy Install 2 Windows 2000 servers (one as hot standby), 2 Windows 2000 workstations, one virtual workstation at Polk County Traffic Operations and 1 virtual workstation at FDOT Traffic Operations Install video wall consisting of 3 ea 50 plasma displays System wide video monitoring for incident management (detection, verification and response) and signal timing evaluation One BARCO video controller to allow expansion of video system Install 44 strategically placed, fully controlled video monitoring cameras Interactive web site with real-time map display of congestion on major arteries; Display snapshots of any of the 44 cameras with image update approximately every two seconds and notification of construction, parades, incidents and any other disruption of normal traffic patterns Traffic responsive control capabilities New system utilizing IP addresses has the ability to control 4096 devices Each intersections will have UPS backup to maintain communications
