Household Hazardous Waste
Household Hazardous Waste should not be placed in your regular refuse containers or your blue recycling container. The City of Lakeland hosts an annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day. This event is held in March. For more information about the March event, please call the Solid Waste Recycling Office at (863) 834-8774.

Household Hazardous Waste includes such items as:

Automobile Batteries

Automobile Oil

Automobile Tires

Anti-Freeze

Paint

Pesticides

Herbicides


Household Hazardous Waste Collection Sites

The Solid Waste Management/Recycling Division establishes locations where City of Lakeland residents can deposit Household Hazardous Waste.

All information is subject to change. Call beforehand to make sure the business is continuing to accept the items.


Automobile Batteries
Hazardous Waste Center at the Landfill will accept automobile batteries, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Residents need to check with their local automotive part stores for disposal of automobile batteries.

Used Oil
(Do not mix oil with anti-freeze, gas or any other product.)

Hazardous Waste Center at the Landfill will accept used oil Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Residents can check with their local automobile service centers for disposal of used oil. You can call these local stores:

Pep Boys
Sears Automotive Centers
Jiffy Lube
Auto Zone

Anti-Freeze
(Do not mix anti-freeze, gas or any other product.)

Hazardous Waste Center at the Landfill will accept anti-freeze Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


Automobile Tires
City Limits - City of Lakeland will pickup no more than 4 automobile tires per garbage pickup, per week at no additional cost to the customer.

Unincorporated Areas - The Polk County Landfill will accept no more than 4 automobile tires at a time for a maximum of 16 tires per year. Residents exceeding more than 4 tires per delivery or exceeding the maximum of 16 tires per year will incur a charge for each tire over the minimum amount.

Scrap Metal, Copper and Aluminum
Residents should contact their local metal dealers in their area for hours, current selling prices and times for drop-offs.
