Waring Road Extension Project
In 2002, a Preliminary Engineering Report was prepared for the City of Lakeland as part of a route alignment study to evaluate proposed improvements to Waring Road between W. Pipkin Road and Drane Field Road. The Report found that improvements to Waring Road were necessary and that Waring Road needed to be extended to the south from Old Medulla Road to W. Pipkin Road. The proposed improvements to the Waring Road corridor have been identified by the City of Lakeland and the Polk Transportation Planning Organization as a multi-modal transportation project which would increase network capacity and facilitate improved access to the Lakeland-Linder Regional Airport and related business/commercial development in the vicinity of the Airports south side property.
This project will extend Waring Road from Old Medulla Road to W. Pipkin Road. The extension will be a two-lane roadway with a traffic signal at the new intersection with W. Pipkin Road. The new roadway will be built to accommodate two additional lanes in the future.
The City awarded Kamminga and Roodvoets, Inc. (Tampa) a $2 million construction contract in October 2009. Construction activity will begin in November and the project is expected to be completed by Fall 2010.
This project was designed by DRMP, Inc. (Orlando, FL). Right of way acquisition services were performed by American Acquisition Group, LLC (Tampa, FL).
The project is funded through Transportation Impact Fee revenue, an Interlocal Agreement with Polk County, and a Joint Project Agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation.
