Water Utilities Administration
The Water Administration staff has served the Lakeland area for many years. It is the staff's goal to maintain a "customer focused" utility. This requires "listening" to our customers and striving to provide drinking water that meets the demands and supports the health of our customers. It also requires that we provide wastewater service, which meets customer demands and protects the environment. The dedicated employees of Lakeland Water Utilities make this possible.

To meet these goals, the Water Utility relies on three work groups:

Water Operations began in 1905 when the City of Lakeland purchased a single well near the center of town. In the late seventies the number increased to 30 well sites. The first lime softening water treatment plant began operation in 1982 and a second in 2006. These plants serve the greater Lakeland area with a product that meets all federal, state and local requirements.

Water Operations is comprised of sixty-four (64) employees assigned to two divisions, Water Distribution and Water Production. Both divisions have pages that can be accessed from any page in the Water Utilities site.

Water Distribution has information about the existing system including water meter history, hydrants, backflow prevention devices, work schedules and locations. Water Production offers water quality data, the annual Consumer Confidence Report, a plant tour, and Local Watering Restrictions.

Wastewater Operations started in 1919 with the Lake Parker Treatment Plant. The Glendale Treatment Plant began in 1926 and has expanded several times to meet demands. In the 1980's as the City grew, a second wastewater treatment plant was built on the north side of Lake Parker. Today the Northside Treatment Plant and the Glendale Treatment Plant are poised to meet the needs of Lakeland in the new century.

Wastewater Operations is comprised of sixty-seven (67) employees. Wastewater Operations is divided into five specialized groups. Each group offers specific information, which can be accessed from any page in the Water Utilities site.

Wastewater Pretreatment has information concerning customer requirements. Wastewater Collections has information about the current condition of the collection system to include location of service lines, lift station status and scheduled line cleaning. Wastewater Operations has data concerning flows and treatment schemes. Wastewater Wetlands has information concerning the effluent disposal system and final water quality data.

Water Engineering is comprised of nineteen (19) employees who support Water Operations, Wastewater Operations, future customers, developers and contractors. The Water Utilities Engineering page contains contact information for future customers, engineers and developers.
