In case you missed it, here's what happened last week in Lakeland!
The City of Lakeland has recently been made aware of a SCAM that targets our citizens that may have a family member being detained by Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE). The culprit pretends to be a lawyer or even a customs official located at Lakeland Linder International Airport and asks for bail money to release the detained family member.

Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Day: On July 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed into law the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to ensure the civil rights of people with disabilities. The ADA has expanded opportunities for those with disabilities by reducing barriers, changing perceptions and increasing full participation in community life. The ADA has improved access to government services, programs, transportation, public places, communication, and information technology. The City of Lakeland’s ADA Specialist, Jenny Sykes, is to advise the City regarding concerns and accessibility needs of persons with disabilities to ensure their participation in City facilities, programs, and services. The Lakeland Alliance for Accessibility was established to advocate the needs of persons with disabilities and work with City staff to create an exceptional quality of life. On the 28th anniversary of the ADA Act, the city of Lakeland celebrates and recognizes the progress that has been made by our efforts to reach full ADA compliance.
Congratulations to Chris Asbill, #LoveLakeland CityMaker for July 2018!
"A Lakeland native, Chris isn’t a fan of the limelight. He doesn’t want to grace the cover of magazines, nor does he have a desire to break into Hollywood anytime soon. What Chris does have, though, is an intrinsic flame for extrinsic good that’s only managed to burn brighter over the years."
The City of Lakeland is pleased to announce the promotion of Michael “Shawn” Sherrouse as the newly-appointed Deputy City Manager, effective July 23rd.
