We took a break from our Weekly Roundup to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, but we're back in full swing this week! Here are some highlights of what's been happening in the City of Lakeland over the last two weeks.
The City Commission met on Friday, November 30th to review the agenda for the upcoming City Commission Meeting on Monday, December 3rd at 3 PM. Here are a few Update on the Go! highlights of some agenda items. We hope you'll join us at City Hall for Monday's meeting, watch online or tune in on Spectrum channel 643/FiOS channel 43.
The City of Lakeland's Public Works Department will soon be striping dedicated parking boxes that will accommodate approximately 55 cars on Lake Morton Drive as a test project. Street-side parking along Lake Morton Drive is currently allowed in certain high-traffic areas, but there are no parking boxes painted on the roadway. Work is scheduled to begin on December 13th at 7 AM.
During the Monday, November 19th City Commission Meeting, a decision was made to use red light camera citation revenues to move the Confederate Monument located at Munn Park to Veterans Memorial Park. The Commission voted 5-2 to revisit an earlier decision made on May 7th that limited funding for the monument relocation to private funds.

The Home Depot Foundation was recognized today for their continued support of Veteran’s Park, with Pam Page, Deputy Director of Parks & Recreation presenting the plaque that will soon be installed at the park. Thank you, Home Depot!
Commissioners Franklin and Madden were recognized at the November 29th City Commission meeting for their completion of the Florida League of Cities' Institute for Elected Municipal Officers training.
