With a 5-2 vote on Thursday, September 6th, the Lakeland City Commission approved a property tax rate not to exceed $5.5644 per $1,000 of taxable property value. The property tax rate has remained at $5.5644 since 2016.
Each month, Mayor William "Bill" Mutz and the Lakeland City Commission present a variety of proclamations. These proclamations are a great way to help spread awareness for specific local, state and and national causes.

In 1981, the United Nations proclaimed the International Day of Peace be “devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples”. The observance of the International Day of Peace is intended to affirm a vision of our world at peace and to foster cooperation among individuals, organizations, and nations. We recognize that all people share the essence of our common humanity that transcends race, ethnicity or national origin, binding us together as the family of humankind.

The Florida Transportation Builder's Association (FTBA) annually recognizes commendable construction performance and awards their member based Contractors for their outstanding work on specific projects, and the City of Lakeland is the recipient of the Florida’s Best in Construction Local Agency Program (LAP) in 2018 for Quality Construction on the Crystal Lake Drive: Bike Lanes and Sidewalks. Congratulations, team! This project was truly a multi-department teamwork effort!

Beth Sherling began her career with the City of Lakeland in 1997 as a lifeguard at the City’s two aquatic facilities Gandy Pool and Simpson Park Pool. She worked for the City as a lifeguard and swim lesson instructor throughout high school and became a Lead Lifeguard while attending Florida Southern College. As chance would have it, a full-time position in the City of Lakeland Parks & Recreation Department became available as Sherling was graduating from Florida Southern with her Bachelor of Arts in Communications.
