    Youth Intermediate Sewing Saturday on February 7th at Jackson Branch Library

    We've got sewing machine basics, where can we go? Join us on Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 am at the Larry R. Jackson Branch Library for projects to sew!

    Older kids and teens ages 9-17 who have taken our Spools Out for Summer sewing series or have hands-on experience using a sewing machine independently are invited to join us for a free 90-minute class. Sewing Saturday is limited to eight (8) participants and registration is required. Each participant must be registered separately.

    February's Project: Quilt-as-you-go Fabric Heart

    **Please note, this is not an introduction to sewing or sewing machines. Students need to have some basic experience using a sewing machines to participate.**

    **NOTE: This February project is the same as the Sewing Saturday class on January 10, 2026. If you attended the January 2026 Sewing Saturday, you are not eligible to register for this class. Any repeat registrants will be removed from the class list.**

    Hands-Only CPR Workshop

    Join the Lakeland Public Library and Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department staff on Thursday, February 5th at noon in the Meeting Room to learn the basics of hands-only CPR. The class focuses on recognizing and caring for a person in cardiac arrest, with hands-on demonstrations for chest compressions on adults and infants. CPR certification is not provided to participants, but you’ll leave with practical skills that could help save a life.

    Registration not required. This class is for ages 18+.

    Dive into a whimsical world of DIY artistry on Friday, February 13th from 3 PM to 4 PM in the Lakeland Public Library Meeting Room with a librarian who can’t paint a straight line! Together, we'll explore the mysteries of art and craft a new-sew heart pillow. Masterpieces? Probably not. Heaps of fun and a lighthearted good time?

    Lakeland History & Culture Center Lecture Series

    Join us in the Meeting Room at the Lakeland Public Library on Thursday, February 12th at 5:30 PM as the Florida Department of Citrus presents about the history of Florida grapefruit in "Florida Grapefruit: Sweet and Tart."

    Learn more about the history and marketing concepts of the exotic “forbidden fruit” now known as grapefruit! This unique part of Florida's citrus history is shared by the team from the Florida Department of Citrus. Come celebrate National Grapefruit Month with us and learn all about this sweet and tart Florida fruit!

    Preschool Storytimes at Lakeland Libraries

    All three Lakeland Library locations have preschool storytimes for children ages 2-5 and their grownups! With stories, songs, rhymes, and activities, storytimes promote the development of preliteracy, verbal and listening skills, and socio-emotional skills.
