La biblioteca viva se reune el segundo martes a las 5:30 PM de cada mes en la biblioteca principal de Lakeland.

Women's Self-Defense Workshop with PCSO

Join the Polk County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, January 13th from 11 AM to 12:30 PM at the Lakeland Public Library as they share essential safety tips and techniques for women to recognize and escape unwanted situations. After a brief 15-minute lecture, participate in a 45-minute hands-on session to learn self-defense skills using a Body Opponent Bag under the guidance of trained professionals. Get ready to kick it!

No registration required. This event is ages 18+.

Books & Mocktails at Jackson Branch

It's a new year, which means it's time to set your reading challenges for 2026, plan your book club offerings, and get started on that resolution to "read more" in the coming year!

Sound overwhelming?  It doesn't have to be.

Join us on Saturday, January 10th at 1 PM at the Larry R. Jackson Branch Library for a laidback afternoon of mocktails and books, and let the library introduce you to your next favorite read.

We'll match drinks with genres and highlight hidden gems from the stacks to inspire your 2026 TBR.  

This program is for adults 18 and over.  No registration is required.

Crafty Creations

Join us on Wednesday, January 14th from 5 pm to 6:30 pm in the Commons at Lakeland Public Library to explore new craft skills in a guided, hands-on creative experience for crafters of all experience levels. This month, it's DIY paper fans! All supplies will be provided. 

Preschool Storytimes at Lakeland Libraries

All three Lakeland Library locations have preschool storytimes for children ages 2-5 and their grownups! With stories, songs, rhymes, and activities, storytimes promote the development of preliteracy, verbal and listening skills, and socio-emotional skills.
