Youth Intermediate Sewing Saturday on December 13th at Jackson Branch

We've got sewing machine basics, where can we go? Join us on Saturday, December 13th at 10:00 am at the Larry R. Jackson Branch Library for projects to sew!

Older kids and teens ages 9-17 who have taken our Spools Out for Summer sewing series or have hands-on experience using a sewing machine independently are invited to join us for a free 90-minute class. Sewing Saturday is limited to eight (8) participants and registration is required. Each participant must be registered separately.

December's Project: Drawstring Fabric Gift Bag

**Please note, this is not an introduction to sewing or sewing machines. Students need to have some basic experience using a sewing machines to participate.**

**NOTE: This December project is the same as the Sewing Saturday class on November 8, 2025. If you attended the November 2025 Sewing Saturday, you are not eligible to register for this class. Any repeat registrants will be removed from the class list.**

Book Ornament Craft

Pay homage to your favorite book by making it into an ornament on Tuesday, December 9th at 5:30 PM in the Lakeland Public Library Meeting Room! Bring your laptop and we will teach you how to craft an ornament that looks like a book using Canva! We will print, trim, and help you glue everything together. Registration is required. This class is for ages 18+.

Please note: This workshop requires a Canva account. If you do not have a Canva account before the start of the workshop, staff can help you create one. The first 6 participants will have access to a library-provided laptop for the class.

Gift Wrapping Workshop at Jackson Branch

Join us Monday, December 8th from 5-6:30PM at the Larry R. Jackson Branch Library for a fun, hands-on gift-wrapping workshop! Learn simple techniques and creative tips to level up your gift decor for any occasion.

Bring gifts to wrap or use our boxes to learn the techniques. We’ll provide the tape, twine, wrapping paper, and ribbon. You are also welcome to bring your own materials for wrapping. 

This workshop will cover how to wrap a basic square/rectangular gift, how to wrap an oddly shaped gift, and basic bow making techniques. 

This event is intended for adults 18 or older. No registration required!

Acompáñenos el lunes 8 de Diciembre de 5:00pm a 6:30pm en la biblioteca Larry R. Jackson para un divertido taller práctico de envoltura de regalos. Aprenda técnicas sencillas y consejos creativos para realzar la decoración de sus regalos para cualquier ocasión. Traiga sus regalos para envolver o use nuestras cajas para aprender las técnicas.

Nosotros le proporcionaremos la cinta adhesiva, el cordel, el papel de regalo y el listón. También puede traer sus propios materiales para envolver.

Getting to Know Libby

Have you met Libby yet? Access thousands of ebooks, audiobooks and magazines through the Libby app. Join us on Wednesday, December 10th at 5:30 PM at the Lakeland Public Library History Room to explore the Libby app and its features that deliver tons of library content to your favorite smartphone or tablet. Ipads will be provided for you to practice with. You are welcome to bring your own device. 

*You must have a library card in order to use the Libby app.*

Registration is required and opens on Wednesday, December 3rd at 5 PM. This class is for ages 15+.

Preschool Storytimes at Lakeland Libraries

All three Lakeland Library locations have preschool storytimes for children ages 2-5 and their grownups! With stories, songs, rhymes, and activities, storytimes promote the development of preliteracy, verbal and listening skills, and socio-emotional skills.
