Interlibrary Loan Policy Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that provides access to materials (books, magazine articles, etc.) that the Polk County Library Cooperative does not own. The Lakeland Public Library uses the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) to search for libraries that own materials that a member needs. If a library agrees to lend the requested material then it is mailed to us. In some cases, the material may be faxed to the Lakeland Public Library.
We also have reciprocal borrowing agreements with the libraries of Orange, Lake and Osceola Counties.

To be eligible to use Interlibrary Loan, a person must
A. Have a Polk County Library Cooperative library card. (Reciprocal borrowing and student cards are not eligible for ILL). The card must be current and valid, i.e. no fines and/or charges due to LPL.
B. Make ILL requests in person and must have their library card or driver's license with them at time of request. (ILL requests may be taken over the phone at the ILL officer's discretion. No ILL requests will be accepted through the mail.)
Conditions of ILL usage
A. Patrons are expected to pay all photocopy or other fees charged by the lending library.
B. Requests are usually filled within two weeks.
C. Length of loan period is regulated by lending library only. LPL does not renew ILL books unless the request is approved by the lending library since renewals are regulated by lending library only.
D. There is no limit as to how many items may be requested at one time. However, the patron should keep in mind how much material can be covered should the items arrive simultaneously.
ILL IS A PRIVILEGE AND CAN BE SUSPENDED IF MATERIAL IS OVERDUE, LOST, OR HANDLED IN ANY WAY THAT JEOPARDIZES OUR BORROWING PRIVILEGES.
