This series contains photographs which document the activities of the flight training schools operated by Lodwick in Lakeland and, to a lesser extent the one in Avon Park.  Between 1940 and 1945 more than 8,000 cadets, including British Royal Air Force cadets, attended the Lodwick School of Aeronautics and more than 6000 graduated.

The photographs in this series come from a variety of sources, including the War Department, newspaper photographers and, very probably, a photographer in the employ of the Lodwick School of Aeronautics.  The subjects of the photographs include the air field, barracks, hangars, commencement ceremonies, drills and marches, cadets in training, and cadets at play.  Also included are photos of Lodwick and other staff members, as well as photos as such prominent visitors as General James Doolittle and journalist Lowell Thomas.

The photographs herein described represent only a small portion of those documenting the flight training schools in this collection.  The negatives in Series VI include many more images of both schools and additional prints will be made as resources permit.
