Breaking the Frame: The Women Who Shaped Art History

The Lakeland Public Library is excited to host Dr. Kristen Carter on Thursday, January 15th at 5:30pm in the Meeting Room, where she will give a presentation on women in art history!

From celebrated creators to forgotten innovators, “Breaking the Frame: The Women who Shaped Art History” will highlight the pivotal roles women have played in the making, commissioning, and interpreting of art across centuries. We will consider how women have shaped art and art history, and why their stories matter now more than ever.

Dr. Kristen Carter is an associate professor of Art History and Museum Studies at Florida Southern College. Her research interests include performance and relationality, and the intersections of art, pedagogy, and politics in contemporary art.

All ages welcome. No registration required.

    Percy Jackson Escape Room

The Quest of the Golden Fleece at Lakeland Public Library on Saturday, January 24th!

You and your team of demigods have been summoned to Camp Half Blood, where the magical barrier that protects the camp is failing! The Golden Fleece has been stolen and hidden somewhere on the campgrounds. Teams of up to 5 participants will have 40 minutes to work together, decipher clues, and find the missing fleece to restore the camp’s protection before monsters invade.

Registration is required and will open on Saturday, January 17 at 10 am.

Demigods under 12 years old must have an adult on their team. Teams that are smaller than 5 may be paired with other participants.
There are multiple escape room sessions on January 24th; please only register for one session. All escape room sessions are the same experience.

    Let the quest begin!

No registration required, but things could get messy, so please wear appropriate clothing! Children under the age of 10 must remain with their grown-up in the library throughout the program.
