MUNN PARK THEN AND NOW

Back
The impact of the late 1950's/early 1960's renovation of Munn Park is evident in this 1962 aerial photo. The "Magic Fountain,' dedicated in 1961, dominates the park landscape and overwhelms the adjacent Confederate monument. The simple plan of walkways has been replaced by a hodgepodge of meandering walks seemingly leading nowhere. The railroad station had also been removed from the downtown area and replaced by a bus terminal, visible at the top of the photo.
