RESTORING THE PROMENADE

Back
Beginning in the late 1970's, Historic Lakeland, a group dedicated to preserving Lakeland's architectural treasures, spearheaded a drive to have the Promenade restored to its former grandeur. The Promenade was named to the National Register of Historic Places in the early 1980's and restoration began in 1983. Over the next 4 years, more than $750,000 in federal grants and city appropriations were spent in restoring the Promenade. It was re-dedicated on July 3, 1987.
