The Piper Aircraft Corporation opened a plant to build its aircraft near the Lakeland Airport in 1973. At its peak the plant employed more than 2000 people. By 1985, however, the Piper Corporation had closed the Lakeland plant and consolidated its operations at its Vero Beach, Florida headquarters.
This collection contains photographs of the types of aircraft manufactured at the Lakeland plant, specifications of company aircraft, and a brief typed history of the company.
