PROPERTY DEEDS OF THE CITY OF LAKELAND (RG04-3) 1900-2003

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The property deeds of the City of Lakeland were deposited with the Special Collections Unit of the Lakeland Public Library in November 2004. The records are in good to excellent condition and were housed in acidic folders and arranged alphabetically by the name of the former property owner, the location or the type of record when received.

The records document the acquisition and disposition of real property by the City of Lakeland during the course of conducting the business of government and providing a variety of municipal services to its residents. Included are warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, copies of leases, maps, property surveys, court judgments, correspondence and memos.

After processing, the records were organized into two series: Property Deeds (and supporting materials) and Condemnations/Foreclosures.

Series I, Property Deeds, 1905-2003 includes deeds to all property owned by the city and includes warranty deeds, quitclaim deeds, leases, maps, property surveys, court judgments, correspondence, and memos.

Series II, Condemnations/Foreclosures, 1900-2003, documents the acquisition and disposition of real property by the city through condemnations, deeds-in-lieu proceedings, court judgments, delinquencies, and conveyance of quit-claim deeds.
