HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD OF LAKELAND (RG5580) 1991-2003
Chapter 8 of Ordinance No. 2203 established the framework for a comprehensive historic preservation program in the City of Lakeland. The board is composed of 9 - 11 members, appointed by the City Commission for three year terms. "As part of the historic preservation board there shall be a design review committee for each historic district consisting of five members of the board" who are responsible for approving any changes to a building or property in the district.

The collection is arranged in two series: Series I - Preservation Board Records in box 1, includes minutes of Board and Design Review Committee meetings, By-laws, a Citywide Resource Survey, and awards applications and awards.

Series II, Historic Buildings and Sites in box 2, contains information on the following sites: Amtrac Railroad Station, Beacon Hill Historic District, Cleveland Court Elementary School, Dixieland Historic District, East Lake Morton Historic District, The Fire Station on Lake Mirror, Florida Southern College Danforth Chapel, Henley Field, Munn Park, the Oates Building, Polk Theatre, the old Lakeland High School building (now Lawton Chiles Middle Academy), South Lake Morton Historic District, historic street lights, and contractors' awards.
