RECORDS OF THE BERTHA COLE MUSIC CLUB (RG5630), 1929-1982

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection contains materials that document the activities of the Bertha Cole Music Club of Lakeland from 1929 to 1982.

Bertha Cole organized the club in 1928 as the Lakeland Artists' Music Club. It was federated in 1929 in affiliation with both State and National Federation of Music Clubs. In 1935/36 the name was changed to Bertha Cole Artists' Music Club, then shortened in 1953 to Bertha Cole Music Club.

In the Constitution and By-Laws adopted in 1929, Article II - section 1 reads "The object of this organization shall be the study, appreciation, and production of the best in music."

After processing, the records were organized into two series: Subject Files and Yearbooks. Series I, Subject Files, 1929-1982, contains Articles of Incorporation/By-Laws, financial information, minutes of meetings, programs, newspaper articles, and Florida State and National Federation of Music Clubs reports and meetings.

Series II, Yearbooks, 1932-1982, lists membership information for each year.

The Collection comprises 1.5 linear feet.
