RECORDS OF THE TUESDAY MUSIC CLUB (RG235), 1921-2000

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection contains materials that document the activities of the Tuesday Music Club of Lakeland. Materials are organized into 33 scrapbooks dating from 1921 through 2000. The home of the Tuesday Music Club, at Park Street and Success Avenue, is pictured above.

The collection contains newspaper articles and photos, programs of local and state meetings, membership yearbooks, annual reports, history and photographs of the club and its members, and a constitution and by-laws. Correspondence, telegrams, cards, bulletins, certificates, scholarship recipients, and various other ephemera (ink drawing, color prints, postcards, etc.) are also included.

The club was organized in 1921 by Mrs. C. A. (Bertha) Cole. Mrs. W. H. (Lucille) Munn was one of the charter members. Some of the people associated with the club were Miss Frances Langford, Mrs. H. J. (Mary) Drane, Mrs. Spessard L. Holland and her sister Mrs. Roscoe Skipper, Mrs. Glenn W. (Hazelle) Morrison (see also under Pioneers: Morrison RG1030), Mrs. Sue Fowler, Mrs. John L. Sheppard, Mrs. Lanier Upshaw, and Bette Blount.

Volume 7 opens with a written history of the club, and also contains the obituary for its founder, Mrs. Cole. Mrs. Munn's obituary is in volume 11, and Mrs. Holland's is in volume 12. Much of Lakeland's history is associated with the Tuesday Music Club, and many of the residents are mentioned throughout the scrapbooks.

The scrapbooks occupy 5 linear feet of shelf space.
