Discover Your House History Workshop

Join us on Thursday, May 21st from 5:30 PM to 7 PM in the Lakeland History Room at the Lakeland Public Library for a Discover Your House History Workshop. 

This hands-on workshop explores both the methodology and resources required to discover your house’s history – what was on the land, who lived in the house, architectural significance. Facilitators Emily Foster, Senior Planner - Historic Preservation with Community & Economic Development; and LuAnn Mims, Lakeland History Room Librarian Supervisor for the Lakeland History and Culture Center, cover all aspects of research whether you live in a designated historic district or not!

Registration is required and opens at 5:30 PM on Thursday, May 14th. 

 

LEGO Club at Jackson Branch

Calling all young builders, makers, architects, and engineers! The Larry R. Jackson Branch Library invites you to our LEGO club on Tuesday, May 19th from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

Beginners and experts ages 5-17 and their grown-ups are welcome to come work on their own LEGO creations or take our themed challenge. No registration required.

Playing with LEGO bricks promotes hand/eye coordination, enhances fine motor skills, develops problem solving skills, increases attention/concentration span, and unleashes creativity.

The library will provide the LEGO bricks, while the kids and teens provide the imagination! LEGO bricks will be sanitized after each use. All materials must stay in the library, so bring a camera to capture your creation. 

Grow It & Cook It: Summer Style!

Want to start a summer food garden? Join the Lakeland Public Library and instructors from the University of Florida IFAS Extension on Tuesday, May 26th at 10 AM in the Meeting Room to learn about what edible crops can be grown in the heat of Central Florida summers, their health benefits, and ways to incorporate what you grow into what you cook!

Ages 18+. Registration is required and opens on Tuesday, May 19th at 10 AM.

Preschool Storytimes at Lakeland Libraries

All three Lakeland Library locations have preschool storytimes for children ages 2-5 and their grownups! With stories, songs, rhymes, and activities, storytimes promote the development of preliteracy, verbal and listening skills, and socio-emotional skills.
