SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE, 1941-91 |
The Daniel Bridges Collection of Lodwick Materials was donated to the Special Collections unit of the Lakeland Public Library in 1998 by Richard Beeler, who had acquired the collection from Loretta Elhi or Elbi, the niece of Daniel Bridges. Bridges had died in 1997 and the collection was left to his niece.
Bridges was a dispatcher and records manager for both the Lodwick School of Aeronautics in Lakeland and Lodwick Aviation Military Academy in Avon Park, FL. He took a number of photographs of both cadets and staff during his tenure and collected publications from both schools, all of which are preserved in this collection. Also included in the collection are memorabilia from both schools, including identification cards and passes, and dozens of unidentified family photographs. The collection also includes a scrapbook of newspaper clippings which Bridges compiled to document the war time exploits of former cadets and instructors from the two schools.
