SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Lodwick School of Aeronautics Oral History Collection consists of transcripts, audiotapes, and videotapes of interviews conducted with students, instructors and staff of the the Lodwick School of Aeronautics, a primary flight training school located in Lakeland, Florida. The school, owned by aviation executive Albert Lodwick, trained British and American pilots for service in World War II.

The interviews were conducted by Lakeland Public Library Special Collections Librarian Hal Hubener in conjunction with the publication of a book and an exhibit documenting the school on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its opening. Many staff and students had returned to Lakeland for the occasion, and Hubener took the opportunity to interview them about their experiences at the school and later, during World War II.

The collection was divided into three series: Transcripts/Releases, Audiotapes, and Videotapes.

Series I, Transcripts/Releases, includes typed transcripts of interviews with some of the students, instructors and staff of the Lodwick School of Aeronautics. There are signed release forms accompanying some, but not all, of the transcripts.

Series II, Audiotapes, consists of audiotapes of the above described interviews with students, staff, and instructors.

Series III, Videotapes, consists of 2 videotapes of interviews of Lodwick School of Aeronautics students, instructors, and staff.

There are several other related collections among he holdings of the Special Collections unit. They include the following: the Albert I. Lodwick Papers, RG2700; the Albert I. Lodwick Photograph Collection, P700; the Daniel Bridges Collection of Lodwick Memorabilia, P708; the Lodwick Memorabilia/Photograph Collection, P710; and the W. W. Tomlinson Collection, RG2701.
