    Getting Started with Personal Finance

    Got questions about finance? Curious about investing? Building your investor IQ starts with understanding the basics.

    Join us at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, May 21st at the Lakeland Public Library to learn about foundations of investing with professional wealth manager Amanda Salcido, Esq., AAMS. Whether you are new to investing or want a refresher, this Foundations of Investing presentation will help you learn about the importance of developing a strategy, the impact of asset allocation, and ideas for focusing on what you can control with your finances.

    No registration required. Ages 15+.

    Lit-Flix at the Jackson Branch

    Join us at the Larry R. Jackson Branch Library on Saturday, May 25th from 1 PM to 4:30 PM for the Lit Flix, a book-to-film club where we discuss film adaptations of literary works.

    We will be reading Alice Walker’s classic The Color Purple and watching the 2023 music film adaptation.

    Ask the Larry R. Jackson Branch service desk for a copy of the book. If we run out of copies, you are still welcome to participate with your own copy.

    The Color Purple (2023) is rated PG-13 for mature thematic content, sexual content, violence and language.

    Looking to develop your tech skills?  The Lakeland Public Library has tech classes designed for beginners, offered Wednesdays in May from 10 AM to 11:30 AM.  Registration is required for each class and opens one week before the class. 

    Microsoft PowerPoint Basics
    Wednesday, May 22nd @ 10 am
    Learn how to create a basic presentation by adding slides, ClipArt, WordArt, and picture files. Use various formatting tools to enhance the look and feel of your presentation.

    Microsoft Excel Basics
    Wednesday, May 29th @ 10 am

    Learn how to create and save an Excel workbook, about columns and rows and how to edit data within them.
