SPACE APPLE 1988-1998

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
The Space Apple was a 7.5" wooden, magnetic, apple-shaped pencil holder made by a group of fourth graders at the Jesse Keen Elementary School in Lakeland and carried on the Discovery shuttle flight in September 1988 as a tribute to teacher/astronaut Christa McAulliffe, who died in the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger in 1986. Included are correspondence, postcards, newspaper clippings, and a typescript article about the "Space Apple" by the teacher whose class made it.
