The Sorosis Club was organized in March 1922 when several local women met at the home of Mrs. George Wright. The group decided to call itself the Sorosis Club and elected a temporary slate of officers. The club then elected the following officers at it first annual meeting on May 1, 1922: President, Mrs. William Steitz; 1st Vice President, Mrs. Sneed; 2nd Vice President, Miss Helen Cochran; Recording Secretary, Mrs. D. A. Rogers; Treasurer, Mrs. George Wright; Corresponding Secretary and Historian, Mrs. N. A. Riggins. Twelve members signed the application for a charter from the State of Florida. The group built a clubhouse on Lake Morton in 1928. The building, pictured above, still stands and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
