WOODMEN OF THE WORLD, LAKELAND CHAPTER (RG248) 1929-1936
woodmen

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
Modern Woodmen of America was founded in 1883 by Joseph Cullen Root in Iowa as a fraternal life insurance organization. The Lakeland Chapter, Alamandra Grove No. 66 was founded in 1911. Mrs. Mildred Wheeler Boone, a Lakeland resident, was state assistant in 1929, state vice president, and state president in 1935-36.

Two scrapbooks contain newspaper articles, brochures, certificates and photographs that chronicle the history of the local chapter and Mrs. Wheeler Boone's attendance at state and national meetings between 1929 and 1936. The local chapter sponsored a youth drill team and many social gatherings.

The above photograph is the 1935 Congress meeting at the Lakeland Terrace Hotel.
