SENATOR SPESSARD HOLLAND COLLECTION (RG1600 - MISC. MANUSCRIPTS) 1971

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
This collection consists of two tributes to Senator Spessard Holland of Florida by the United States Senate. The first was upon his retirement from the Senate in January 1971. The second was a tribute to Holland from the Senate after his death on November 1971. Both were printed by the Government Printing Office.

There is also a Christmas card with a photo of Governor Holland, wife and children and the Governor's Mansion, which was sent to Mr. & Mrs. Robert Stuart (RG2750) c 1941-45.

Holland was a native of Bartow, Florida and enjoyed a long and successful political career in the state. He served as a prosecuting attorney and county judge in Polk County, as a state senator, as governor of the state from 1941 to 1945, and as a United States Senator representing Florida from 1946 to his retirement in 1971.

The Spessard Holland Papers are housed at the University of Florida's P. K. Yonge Library of Florida History.
