The John Wright Collection consists of photographs, printed material and 19th and early 20th century deed records from Tennessee and Virginia. A native of Tennessee, John Wright moved to Lakeland in 1920. Active in civic affairs, he joined the Lakeland Kiwanis club in 1927 and held many offices including Governor of the Florida District and International Trustee and Treasurer, before running for the post of International President in 1950.
Wright was associated with the real estate firm of H.J. Drane. By 1950 Wright had become president of the firm and changed its name to Wright and McKeel. An owner of several citrus groves, he supported the organization of the Florida Citrus Commission and helped organize the Florida Citrus Mutual. He also played a role in promoting the Lodwick School of Aeronautics and Drane Field.
Materials were donated by Mrs. William Robert and are organized into subject files.
