MADISON L. MUMBAUER PAPERS (RG1075) 1930-1961

SERIES I: MILITARY SERVICE 1938-1961
The Military Service series contains records documenting Madison L. Mumbauer's lengthy military career. Mumbauer joined the army as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1938 after graduation from the University of Florida. He was placed in the inactive reserve in the fall of 1940 and recalled to active duty in the Army Air Corps in late 1942. He returned to the inactive reserve in October 1946 and worked for the Lakeland Police Department as a patrol officer and detective between 1946 and 1951. He was recalled to active duty in the Air Force in March 1951 and remained in the regular Air Force until 1961. He retired from the Air Force reserve in 1970.

The bulk of the records document Mumbauer's third tour of active duty from 1951 to 1961. During this period he was assigned primarily to the Air Force Police and achieved the rank of captain. Included are air police incident reports, air police policies and procedures manuals, job descriptions and operations manuals for the office of Provost Marshall, officer effectiveness reports, military orders, correspondence, pay and housing allowance records, equipment inventories, service statements, and test and training results.

The records in this series are arranged alphabetically by subject or type or record and chronologically within folders. The above photo shows Madison Mumbauer (far left) as an officer in the Air Police.

The folder title list for this series cannot be reproduced due to limitations imposed by the City of Lakeland's web editing software. The complete folder title list is available in Special Collections.
