PARK TRAMMELL COLLECTION (RG300 MISC. MANUSCRIPTS) 1913-1936

SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE
Park Trammell was one of the early settlers of Lakeland and a major figure in Florida politics in the first third of the 20th century. He began his career as mayor of Lakeland at the turn of the century and later went on to serve as a state representative, state senator, Florida Attorney General, Florida Governor, and twenty years as a U. S. Senator from Florida. He died in 1936.

Trammell's widow donated his Senatorial and personal papers to the Lakeland Public Library in 1940. They were subsequently donated to the University of Florida and the Lakeland Public Library provided with a microfilm copy. Trammell's gubernatorial papers reside in the Florida Sate Archives in Tallahassee. The building housing the Lakeland Public Library was named the Park Trammell Building in 1955. It is now home to the Greater Lakeland Chamber of Commerce.

This collection consists of a campaign brochure and poster for one of Trammell's Senate campaigns, a printed copy of his first message as governor of Florida to the Florida Legislature in 1923, postcards, newspaper clippings, a collection data sheet compiled for the National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections, resolutions passed by both the US House and Senate eulogizing Trammell and commemorating his long career in public life, and three reels of microfilm of Trammell's senatorial papers.
