LEDGER PHOTOGRAPH COLLECTION (P950), 1961-1989
school's out for summer

SERIES I: POLK COUNTY, 1961-1989
The photographs in this series were taken by photographers employed by or under contract to The Ledger. They cover all of the communities within Polk County and were apparently taken to accompany articles which were to appear in the newspaper. Some, but not all, of the photographs actually were published in the newspaper. The series consists entirely of photographic prints in a variety of sizes. The negatives were not donated with the prints and were most likely destroyed.

The subjects of the photographs range from the mundane to the unusual and include auto accidents, local businesses, children in school and at play, dogs and dog shows, fashion shows, fishing, the Florida Citrus Festival in Winter Haven, Florida Southern College in Lakeland, clubs and organizations, community fundraising activities, elections, and Lakeland General Hospital. The photos are arranged alphabetically by subject and chronologically within folders.

Pictured above are children from the Oscar Pope Elementary School celebrating the end of the 1977 school year.

The folder title list for this series cannot be reproduced here due to limitations imposed by the City of Lakeland's web page editing software. The complete folder title list is available in Special Collections.
