A firefighter must possess a variety of characteristics to protect the citizens and their property from fire and to assist with medical and other types of emergencies. Becoming a professional firefighter requires intelligence, courage, knowledge, cooperation, physical and emotional strength, agility, energy, compassion, and adaptability.
