LAKELAND, FL (July 17, 2026) | On Monday, July 20, 2026, the City of Lakeland will begin construction of three Phosphorus Elimination Systems with Denitrification (PES+N) modules at Lake Morton to remove nitrogen and phosphorus from the lake’s surface water The modules will be installed on the western side of Lake Morton and operated for a two-year demonstration period.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Commission of the City of Lakeland, Florida, at a City Commission meeting which commences at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, August 17, 2026, in the City Commission Room at City Hall, 228 S. The City Commission of the City of Lakeland, Florida proposes to adopt: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LAKELAND, FLORIDA RELATED TO DATA CENTERS AND LARGE LOAD CUSTOMERS; ESTABLISHING A TEMPORARY MORATORIUM ON THE ACCEPTANCE, PROCESSING, REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF APPLICATIONS FOR DEVELOPMENT PERMITS, DEVELOPMENT ORDERS AND OTHER APPROVALS RELATED TO DATA CENTERS AND LARGE LOAD CUSTOMERS; DIRECTING THE REVIEW AND DEVELOPMENT OF APPROPRIATE AMENDMENTS TO THE CITY OF LAKELAND LAND DEVELOPMENT CODE, COMPREHENSIVE PLAN AND OTHER REGULATIONS RELATING TO DATA CENTERS AND LARGE LOAD CUSTOMERS; ESTABLISHING THE DURATION OF THE MORATORIUM; MAKING FINDINGS; PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
