Lakeland, FL (October 17, 2018) | Six Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) Technical Rescue Team 421 (TRT 421) members have been deployed in the Florida panhandle since October 10, 2018 assisting in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael.
Lakeland, FL (October 15, 2018) – Six members from the Lakeland Fire Department’s (LFD) Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) Technical Rescue Team 421 (TRT 421) deployed on Wednesday, October 10 to the Florida panhandle, to provide rescue and relief assistance in the wake of Hurricane Michael.
The Lakeland Fire Department was presented with a Life Safety Achievement Award for its fire prevention accomplishments in 2017 by the National Association of State Fire Marshals’ (NASFM) Fire Research and Education Foundation earlier this week. Award recipients were announced by Julius Halas, president of the NASFM Foundation. The award is sponsored by a grant from Grinnell Mutual.
The Lakeland Fire Department (LFD) is excited to announce that it will be accepting applications to fill vacant firefighter positions September 4 through September 28, 2018. The firefighters to be hired will fill positions created by recent promotions and retirements.
The Lakeland Fire Department, on behalf of the City of Lakeland, made a special presentation at Monday, August 20, 2018 Commission Meeting. The department recognized the dozens of community partners that gave a helping hand during a fire and subsequent evacuation at independent and assisted living facility Lake Morton Plaza.
The Lakeland Fire Department’s (LFD) Fire Prevention Division, responsible for fire inspections, permitting, fire investigations, and plans review, will now have Fire Inspectors available from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. These extended hours will benefit Lakeland’s contractors and business owners by offering additional hours of customer service, at no additional expense.
The Lakeland Fire Department is proud to announce that two if its Firefighter / EMTs, Douglas Novogrodsky and Joseph Allison, were recognized by the Polk County Presidents’ Roundtable on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 as Firefighters of the Year, respectively.
Michael Williams, former Battalion Chief at the Lakeland Fire Department (LFD), was selected as the department’s new Assistant Chief of Operations. Assistant Chief Williams will begin his new role effective immediately. The vacancy Williams is filling was created when Douglas E. Riley promoted to the position of Fire Chief, upon former Fire Chief Gary Ballard’s retirement.
