| LAKELAND POLICE TAKE FIRST PLACE AT 2006 INTERNATIONAL SWAT ROUND UP
The Lakeland Police Department SWAT team earned top honors at the 24th annual International SWAT Round Up held in Orlando between Nov 5 - 10, 2006. This is the third time a Lakeland SWAT team has captured the first place trophy at the Round Up.
A total of 69 teams competed in this year's event, including international teams from Germany, Sweden, Kuwait, Korea, Hungary, Canada, Spain, Bosnia, and Dubai, as well as from police agencies throughout the United States.
Competition events included tests of physical endurance and tactical skills that challenge the teams to work together and overcome obstacles to achieve success.
Specific events include obstacles courses, rappelling, pistol shooting, sniper competitions, and overall teamwork.
Successful teams blend a combination of individual skills into a team-based approach to each event.

In addition to the tactical skills that are honed during competition, the ultimate benefit to participating in this competition is the ability of a SWAT team to respond to life or death situations and develop a tactical plan to bring a successful resolution to the incident.
The entire Lakeland Police Department is proud of the SWAT Team, not only for their accomplishments at the Round Up but also for the dedication to duty each member brings to team every day.
