The City of Lakeland is centrally located within the state of Florida and is close to several area attractions which include; Disneyworld, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens and Lego Land. In addition to these vacation destinations, Lakeland is home to Lakeland Linder Regional Airport where the annual Sun N Fun Fly In happens in the spring. Lakeland offers easy access to Tampa or Orlando for those who are flying into the area! We are also the home of the spring training camp for the Detroit Tigers.
The City of Lakeland spans approximately 75 square miles and had a population of 98,608 in 2012.
The Lakeland Police Department is composed of the Administrative Bureau (Chief’s office), the Neighborhood Services Bureau (NSB), the Investigative Services Bureau (ISB) and the Special Services Bureau (SSB). An Assistant Chief oversees NSB, ISB and SSB.
The department has an authorized strength of 227 sworn full-time officers (1 chief, 3 assistant chiefs, 4 captains, 11 lieutenants, 35 sergeants, and 173 officers) and 117 civilian employees.
The department’s annual budget for FY 2012 was approximately $36.4 million dollars.
