On Friday, May 16, 2014 at approximately 10:00 a.m. Lakeland Police responded to Lakeland Highlands Middle School in reference to a bomb threat. SRO Wesley had been informed that a handwritten note was found in the boy’s bathroom in the 6th grade wing of the school. As precautionary measures, an immediate evacuation of the school was done. A PCSO K9 team responded to Lakeland Highlands Middle School to assist in the search of the grounds. The search turned up no explosive devices and the students were returned to the school at approximately 12:00 noon. The Lakeland Police Department appreciates the support of the PCSO K9 unit during the search of the school.
Through the investigative efforts of Officer Wesley, Officer Edwards and Lakeland Highlands Middle School staff, a student was arrested for Making a False Bomb Threat (felony). The student has been transported to JAC.
