    Criminal Investigations Section

    The Criminal Investigations Section is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations into reported crimes that require additional work by detectives. The LPD Crime Lab is also part of the Criminal Investigations. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have.

    The Section is divided into several major sections; Violent Crimes Unit, Property Crimes Unit, General Crimes Unit (Auto Theft and Economic Crimes), and the Crime Lab. Also part of CIS is the Victims Advocates Unit.

    The Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) investigates serious crimes of homicide, sexual battery, robbery, and aggravated assaults. Sgt. Mike Ivancevich is the supervisor of VCU.

    The Property Crimes Unit (PCU) investigates crimes involving burglary or theft. Sgt. Tom Collins is the supervisor of PCU.

    The General Crimes Unit (GCU) handles cases involving auto theft, economic crimes, fraud, and forgery. Sgt. Jeff Birdwell is the supervisor of GCU.

    The Crime Lab (LAB) processes crime scenes and conducts forensic examinations of physical evidence. The Lab also performs fingerprint analysis by manual examination or with the use of AFIS, a computerized Automated Fingerprint Identification System. Mrs. Tracy Grice is the supervisor of the Crime Lab.

    The Victim Advocate Unit (VAU) provides counseling and support services to victims of serious crime with a staff of full-time advocates and a network of over 20 volunteer citizen advocates. Mr. Harold Silas supervises VAU.
